Florida Atlantic Earns Top Overall Seed In The 2025 American Softball Championship

IRVING, Texas – The field has officially been set for the 2025 American Athletic Conference Softball Championship, scheduled to take place on May 7-10 at the USF Softball Stadium in Tampa, Florida. All ten teams that compete in The American in softball were seeded in the tournament field based on regular season winning percentage in conference games during the 2025 season.

All games of the 2025 American Softball Championship are scheduled to air live on ESPN+, with the first semifinal game to air on ESPNU on May 9 at 1 p.m. (ET) and the conference championship game set for May 10 at noon ET nationally broadcast on ESPN2.

No. 1 Florida Atlantic (43-9, 22-4 American) secured the No. 1 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship and the regular season championship for a second straight season following a sweep of Tulsa to end the season. Florida Atlantic ended the season on a nine-game winning streak. The Owls earn a bye to the semifinals on May 9.

No. 2 South Florida (40-14-1, 19-6-1 American) will be the No. 2 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship for the first time since 2021. South Florida ended the season with a sweep of UTSA to secure the second seed. The host Bulls earned a bye to the semifinals on May 9.

No. 3 Charlotte (30-26, 17-10 American) locked down the third seed in the championship during the final week of the regular season with a sweep over No. 7 seed UAB.  Charlotte won the 2024 American Championship in Wichita, Kansas. The 49ers earned a bye to quarterfinals on May 8.

No. 4 North Texas (34-20, 16-11 American) is set to be the fourth seed in the conference tournament, but ended the season being swept by East Carolina. North Texas will look to get back on track in the first game of the quarterfinals on May 8.

No. 5 Wichita State (27-24-1, 14-11-1 American) settled into the tournament’s fifth seed after winning the series finale against Memphis. The Shockers reached the 2024 championship game and will look to win their second American Championship (2021). Wichita State awaits the winner of No. 9 UTSA and No. 8 Tulsa on May 7.

No. 6 East Carolina (29-25, 14-13 American) swept North Texas to end the season and will look to keep their momentum going in The American Championship. The Pirates look to capture their first conference championship and await the winner of No. 7 UAB and No. 10 Memphis on May 7 in the second round.

No. 7 UAB (24-30, 10-17 American) secured the seventh seed in the conference tournament. The Blazers will open the championship with a first round matchup against No. 10 Memphis on May 7.

No. 8 Tulsa (20-31, 8-18 American) enters the tournament as the No. 8 seed in the field. The Golden Hurricane previously captured the 2016, 2017 and 2018 American Softball Championship titles, defeating Houston 1-0 in the 2017 championship game in Greenville. Tulsa will play in the opening game of the tournament against No. 9 UTSA at 10 a.m. on May 7.

No. 9 UTSA (21-32, 6-20 American) will be the ninth seed in the upcoming American Softball Championship. The Roadrunners will take on No. 8 seed Tulsa in the opening game in The American Championship on May 7.

No. 10 Memphis (18-34, 5-21 American) rounds out the tournament field as the tenth seed following a series loss at the hands of Wichita State in the final series of the year. The Tigers previously reached the tournament’s semifinal round in both 2017 and 2018. Memphis will take on No. 7 UAB in the first round of the tournament.
