USF Baseball Welcomes UTSA for a Top Two Matchup at The Red

The Bulls look to move up in the American standings.

TAMPA, May 1, 2025 – The University of South Florida baseball team (24-18, 12-6 American) will welcome the UTSA Roadrunners (34-10, 15-3 American) for a top-two matchup this Friday through Sunday at Red McEwen Field. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on Bulls Unlimited.

South Florida still holds second place in the AAC standings. The Bulls are three games behind the UTSA Roadrunners (15-3). The Bulls have a one-game lead on Charlotte and a two-game lead on Florida Atlantic, Tulane, and East Carolina.

Setting The Stage:

With three weeks to go, the Bulls are looking to stay in the running for the regular season title. After the series against the UTSA Roadrunners, South Florida has two more series left. The Bulls have a series with Florida Atlantic and East Carolina.

South Florida will travel to Florida Atlantic next weekend before welcoming East Carolina for the regular season finale.

Series History:

The Bulls and Roadrunners have met three times, with UTSA leading the series 2-1. Last season was the first meeting between the two clubs. This weekend will be the first meeting in Tampa.

Note-A-Bull:

  • 1B Sebastian Greico has hit 13 home runs this season, leading the American Conference. He has a team-leading 43 RBI.
  • OF Marcus Brodil has reached base in all 18 conference games this season. Overall, he has reached base in eight straight games.
  • OF Ryan Pruitt stole four bases last week, with two coming on Sunday. Pruitt has stolen a team-leading 17 bases this season. He ranks third in the conference.
  • RHP Jorge DeCardenas has struck out 19 batters looking, the third most in the conference.

Additional Notes:

  • Five players have scored 30+ runs this season. Marcus Brodil, Sebastian Greico, and Bradke Lohry lead with 34. Lance Trippel follows with 31, and Jackson Mayo with 30.
  • The Bulls’ pitching staff has recorded 10 saves this season, with Landen Yorek earning half. Jorge DeCardenas has two, while Jack Nedrow, Corey Kling, and Brandon Keyster have one.
  • The Bulls’ 12 conference wins so far this season have been the most since 2021, when they finished with 14, which is the most conference win since joining the American.

Hannahs at the Helm:

Mitch Hannahs was named South Florida’s eighth head coach in program history on June 8, 2024, after compiling 355 wins over 11 seasons at Indiana State. The 2023 ABCA NCAA DI Midwest Region Coach of the Year guided the Sycamores to six conference titles and five NCAA Regionals, guiding ISU to a spot in the 2023 NCAA Super Regional. He takes over a USF team that went 26-29 last year and features 24 new players.

60th Year of USF Baseball:

The South Florida Baseball program played its first season in 1966 and will enter its 60th campaign in 2025. The Bulls have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and earned their first-ever Super Regional berth in 2021. USF has won 11 conference titles – five tournament titles (3 Sun Belt, 1 Metro, and 1 American) and six regular season championships (3 Sun Belt, 2 Metro, and 1 C-USA). Bulls baseball players have been recognized with All-America honors 12 times, and 19 Bulls have earned Freshman All-America accolades.
