IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, April 20.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Hugo Menin, R-Sr., UTSA
Menin ran a top 10 time in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles, completing the race in 49.77 seconds. It is the No. 7 time in the NCAA this season, the top time in The American and the second-fastest in UTSA history.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jamal Mitchell, Sr., Memphis
Mitchell moved into the top 50 in the NCAA in discus with a distance of 56.39 meters. It puts Mitchell with the 48th best throw in the nation and marks a new career-best for the senior.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Janae Dean, Gr., Tulane
Dean broke her own program record in the 800-meter run, completing the race with a time of 2:03.73 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The time pushes her up to 26th in the NCAA this season.
Women’s Field Athletes of the Week
Rachela Pace, Sr., UTSA
Pace had a season-best jump in triple-jump with a leap of 13.05 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays. Her mark moves her into the top 25 in the nation, placing her at No. 24, while also taking over the top spot in The American.
