UF LAX: No. 4 Florida Blows Past Bearcats in 20-2 Victory

The Gators opened up the game on 12-0 run, holding Cincinnati to two goals, the lowest amount let up since April 28, 2021.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Florida lacrosse team (14-2, 4-0 Big 12) earned its 11th consecutive victory, defeating Cincinnati (8-8, 1-3 Big 12) by a score of 20-2 on Saturday afternoon. UF has clinched at least a share of the Big 12 Regular Season Title.

The Gators were in control from the opening draw, taking an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and leading 12-0 at one point in the first half. The two goals allowed are the lowest UF has let up since April 28, 2021 against Liberty.

Nine different Gators found the back of the net, led by four goals apiece from Kaitlyn Davies and Gianna Monaco. Jenny Markey tallied three goals as Gabby Greene, Clark Hamilton and Gabby Koury scored two. Ryann Frechette, Macy Zaban and Frannie Hahn each scored one.

Florida dished out 14 assists, good for their second-highest amount this season. Frannie Hahn (five) and Jordan Basso (four) combined for nine of the teams 14 assists, along with one assist each from Davies, Hamilton, Koury, Frechette and Zaban.

Elyse Finnelle recorded eight saves, improving to 9-0 in the cage. Georgia Hoey recorded two saves and Susan Radebaugh made one, good for the second consecutive game all three goalkeepers have seen action.

How It Happened

First Quarter

  *   Hamilton got the scoring kicked off at the 12:29 mark, followed by a rip from Koury off a pass from Basso to give UF a 2-0 lead with 10:54 to play.
  *   The Gators scored six more goals in the next 10:54 to take an 8-0 lead after one. Greene converted off a free-position shot, before Davies scored back-to-back goals, with the second one coming off a turnover she caused on the ride and got a breakaway goal with 4:55 left.
  *   Markey, Monaco and Koury scored the final three goals of the frame, with the last two coming off assists from Frannie Hahn.
Second Quarter

  *   The second quarter was much of the same, with UF connecting on four goals to start the quarter.
  *   Four different Gators connected on goals, as Davies (12:57), Monaco (12:22), Frannie Hahn (10:24) and Markey (7:51) scored to give UF a 12-0 advantage.
  *   The Bearcats got on the board with 3:20 to play, with UF taking a 12-1 lead heading into half.
Third Quarter

  *   Hamilton scored the first goal of the frame at the 13:10 mark, followed by a goal from Davies and two from Monaco to push the lead to 16-1 with 4:59 to play.
  *   Cincinnati scored with 4:05 to play before Markey scored her third of the game off the feed from Basso to give Florida a 17-2 lead after three.
Fourth Quarter

  *   The Gators outscored the Bearcats 3-0 in the frame, off goals from Greene, Frechette and Zaban. Frechette assisted the Greene goal and Zaban assisted the Frechette goal. Florida was victorious by a 20-2 margin.
