No. 47 Florida dropped 4-0 to No. 13 Vanderbilt in the second round of the 2025 SEC Tournament.
AUBURN, Ala.- The Gators faced a tough Vanderbilt team in the second round of the 2025 SEC Tournament on Thursday night. Entering as the No. 13 seed, UF was unable to pull off the upset, falling 4-0 to the fifth-seeded Commodores.
Doubles Action:
Vanderbilt secured the doubles point with wins on courts three and one to take an early lead over Florida. The Commodores struck first on court three, where Sonya Macavei and Amy Stevens defeated Noemie Oliveras and Talia Neilson Gatenby, 6-3. Moments later, the 14th-ranked duo of Celia-Belle Mohr and Sophia Webster clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over No. 22 Alicia Dudeney<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/alicia-dudeney/16980> and Bente Spee<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/bente-spee/16983> at the top spot.
The match on court two was left unfinished, with Valeria Ray and Bridget Stammel leading Rachel Gailis<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/rachel-gailis/16981> and Nikola Daubnerova<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/nikola-daubnerova/16984>, 5-2.
Singles Play:
In singles play, Vanderbilt extended its lead with dominant performances on several courts. The Commodores second point of the day came on court six as UF’s Noémie Oliveras medically retired after falling 6-0 in set one to Amy Stevens.
On court one, No. 30 Rachel Gailis<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/rachel-gailis/16981> fell to No. 14 Celia-Belle Mohr, 6-1, 6-2, as the Commodores picked up their third point of the evening. Moments later, Bridget Stammel clinched the match for Vanderbilt at 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Talia Neilson-Gatenby<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/talia-neilson-gatenby/17074> on court three. Neilson-Gatenby attempted a comeback in the second set but it came down to deuce point at 5-4 and it was Vanderbilt’s Bridget Stammel who closed out to secure the win.
Three matches were left abandoned when the contest was called in favor of the Commodores. On court two, Alicia Dudeney<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/alicia-dudeney/16980> was in the middle of a gritty battle against Valeria Ray. Dudeney took the first set in a thrilling tiebreaker at 7-6(5), and held the lead in the second set at 3-2.
On court five, Nikola Daubnerova<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/nikola-daubnerova/16984> was also left unfinished as she trailed Trinetra Vijayakumar 6-2, 5-3. Daubnerova fought hard, but it was proving to be a tall task for her as she returned to the singles court for the first time in weeks after suffering a lower body injury.
The final match that went unfinished was Bente Spee<https://admin.floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/bente-spee/16983> and Amy Stevens on court four. The match was knotted at 3-3 in the second set, but Spee was at disadvantage after falling 6-3 in the initial set. Spee’s net play was beginning to gain more momentum before the second-round match was called.
