UF LAX: Bragg and Finnelle Earn Big 12 Player of the Week Honors

Both players helped the Gators go 2-0, holding opponents to 8.5 goals per game this past week.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida lacrosse team was represented by defender Theresa Bragg and Goalkeeper Elyse Finnelle, as both players earned Big 12 Players of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Gators mounted a 2-0 record this past week, with wins over Jacksonville and Colorado. Bragg and Finnelle helped anchor the Florida defense, holding teams to just 8.5 goals per game on 17-for-53 shooting (.321 percent shooting).

Bragg earns her third Big 12 Defender of the Week, after posting three caused turnovers and a ground ball this past week. The captain held both Jacksonville and Colorado’s leading scorers to one goal each, as Jacksonville’s Ainsley Scruggs has totaled six hat-tricks this season and Colorado’s Madison Pisani has recorded four.

Bragg leads the team in caused turnovers with 22, along with 18 ground balls across 14 game and 14 starts. She has caused two or more caused turnovers in six games this season.

Finnelle posted 20 saves across two games this week, logging a .571 save percentage. The Deale, Md. native tallied a season high 11 saves in a conference victory over Colorado on Saturday. Finnelle has 55 saves this season in 13 appearances and six starts in the cage. It is her first Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week award this season.
