Florida Atlantic pulled another first on Saturday, defeating FIU (12-4) for the first time since February 21, 2003, and for the second time in 27 meetings. Prior to the match, the Owls honored their two seniors who have been instrumental in the growth of the program in Millie-Mae Matthews and Lexi Silna. Since their arrival to Paradise the Owls have tallied a 49-34 dual match record and have solidified themselves as one of the nation’s top 30 teams. Silna concluded her final regular season with a record of 11-0 while Matthews is 8-1 on the year. The visiting FIU Panthers pulled within one at 2-1 by taking a three-set match on court three setting up the late match heroics from Panna Bartha and Silna. Bartha, who also battled back on singles court one with a 7-5, 7-6(7-5) win, set up her doubles partner, Silna for the match clinching point, which Silna collected giving FAU the 4-1 win. QUOTABLE Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU’s Director of Tennis “I am incredibly proud of this amazing team. We are united, with a group of selfless individuals competing together for a common goal. Achieving an undefeated season is never easy, but it takes a team like ours to make it happen.” Today, we pushed ourselves a little harder for our seniors, who have paved the way and demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout their journey. It has been inspiring to witness their growth over these four years. Lexi [Silna] and Millie [Millie-Mae Matthews] are two phenomenal young ladies, and I am excited to see what the future holds for them. Their prospects are exceptionally bright. “Now, our focus shifts to the conference championship. While this season has been remarkable, our team understands that there is still much work ahead. We will take a few days off to recharge both physically and mentally before the upcoming weekend.” RESULTS #61 FIU (12-4) at #27 Florida Atlantic (15-0) Date: 04/12/2025 Time: 11:00 AM Facility: Kimberly V.
