Zack Swanwick shot a 2-under 70 to start the Calusa Cup and is one shot back of the lead.
NAPLES, Fla. – Florida men’s golf and Zack Swanwick are both in second through the opening round of the regular season finale at the Calusa Cup on Sunday.
The Gators had a team round of 290 (+2) behind a strong finish of 4-under across holes 14-18 to position themselves six shots back of leader Louisville (-4).
Swanwick was one of seven golfers to shoot under par at Calusa Pines today. The freshman logged a 4-under front nine, highlighted by four birdies (three straight) between holes 5-9. His round was his eighth par or better this season and trails leader Easton Johnson of Louisville by one stroke.
Jack Turner carded the second-lowest round for UF with a 72 (E). He was +3 after seven holes, and closed sound, going bogey-free with three birdies with his final on the 18th. The sophomore is tied for 8th and earned his team-high 14th par or better round.
After sitting +4 with five holes remaining, Luke Poulter closed with his team-leading fourth eagle on the par4 14th (344 yards) and birdie on the 18th for a 74 (+2). Senior Ian Gilligan also shot a 74 (+2) and was +4 with five holes to play before finishing bogey-free and 2-under. The pair are tied for 10th and along with Turner all made birdie on the final hole.
Rounding out the lineup was Matthew Kress with a 78 (+6).
The second round continues tomorrow with the final 18-holes set for Tuesday at Calusa Pines Golf Club.
