T&F: Hurricanes Open Florida Relays with Strong Performances

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Miami track and field team opened up competition at the Florida Relays with a win and several program marks Saturday at the Percy Beard Track.

The women’s 4×100 relay of Sophie Haag, Iyonna Codd, Alyssa Robinson and Sanaa Hebron began the day with a strong performance, clocking a season-best time of 44.42 to qualify for Saturday’s final at 12:55 p.m.

Helga Sigurjonsdottir placed fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.82m, the third-best mark in school history.

In the men’s 1500m, Josh Jones recorded the second-fastest time in program history at 3:47.58 to finish fourth.

Sanaa Hebron posted the fourth-fastest time in program history in the women’s 400m hurdles at 55.87 to finish third.

The women’s 4×400 relay of Gabriella Grissom, Janay Moorer, Serena Tate and Morgan Roundtree won their heat and advanced to Saturday’s final with a season-best time of 3:38.48. The finale will take place at 5:15 p.m.

Daphnee Lavassas recorded the second-fastest time in program history in the women’s 1500m at 4:21.45 and Maddie Scheier posted the fourth-best performance at 4:25.55.

Lavassas capped off the day with a win the women’s 5000m, recording a time of 16:36.82.

Miami returns to the track at 9 a.m. with the discus at 9 a.m. before the 100m hurdles at noon. Live scoring for the meet can be found online here.
