TAMPA, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks baseball team was defeated 3-1 in the Sunshine State Conference series opener by the top-ranked Tampa Spartans on Friday night at the UT Baseball Field. Keyler Gonzalez earned a tough luck loss, tossing seven innings, striking out three, and allowing just two unearned runs.

- Gonzalez held the Spartans off the scoreboard for the first two innings, before Tampa took a 1-0 lead following a passed ball in the bottom of the third.
- Zeth Rodriguez tied the game with an RBI double, driving in Ty Torti, and put the score at 1-1 in the top of the fifth.
- UT took advantage of an error by NSU and took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
- Gonzalez kept the Sharks in the game, leaving the game after seven innings, with NSU trailing 2-1.
- Tampa took advantage of another miscue by the Sharks, scoring their third run, and pushing the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning on a wild pitch.
- NSU was able to get the tying run on base, but was unable to bring in a run in the top of the ninth inning, falling in the series opener 3-1 to the Spartans.
