American Athletic Conference Softball Release – March 27

FLORIDA ATLANTIC IN THE POLLS

The Florida Atlantic Owls continue to be ranked as we head into another weekend of action. They top the charts at 22 in the D1Softball poll. They are also ranked 23 in the NFCA/GoRout Coaches Poll.  The Owls are receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.

OWLS/BULLS SEPARATING FROM THE PACK

The Florida Atlantic Owls and South Florida Bulls are  the lone teams to win each conference series they’ve play thus far.  The Owls sit in first place with a three-game lead, holding an 8-1 record in The American. South Florida is one game back with a 7-2 record, and a two-game lead over third place.

LAMBERT TOPS THE NATION

Florida Atlantic pitcher Ainsley Lambert leads the nation in saves this season, earning seven thus far. The senior holds a 1.68 ERA across 41.2 innings pitched this season. She is one save away from tying the record for most saves in a season – which she set a season ago.

LORD HITTING BOMBS

Charlotte’s redshirt senior infielder Jenna Lord has been dangerous at the plate for the 49ers this season, hitting 14 home runs.  The total is 6th in the nation heading into the weekend and jus three being the national leader (Bri Ellis, Arkansas).  She has driven in a conference-leading 38 runs this season.

LATEST RPI RANKINGS

Five American Athletic Conference teams rank in the top 60 in the latest NCAA RPI Rankings.  Florida Atlantic sits atop the conference at 30, while South Florida is at 39.  Charlotte comes in at 52, followed by North Texas (53) and Wichita State (58). The American is the 5th ranked conference in RPI behind only the SEC, ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten.
