BASE | Owls Roll to Sixth Straight Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball scored in seven different innings on Saturday on its way to a 14-4 victory over Bradley. The Owls (16-3) have won six straight games and will look for the series sweep against the Braves (2-12) on Sunday when the sides come together for a noon first pitch at FAU Baseball Stadium.
THE BEGINNING
Each team scored a run in the first inning before the Owls took the lead in the third and did not look back. John Schroeder lined a two-out, bases-loaded single to left field to bring in two runs. After being held off the board in the second inning, Florida Atlantic would score in every inning the rest of the way.
THE TURNING POINT
The Owls scored three runs in the fifth and another three in the sixth to turn a 4-1 lead into a 10-1 lead. In the fifth, RBI hits by Kyle BoylstonMarshall Lipsey, and Jake Millan did the damage. In the sixth, Schroeder lined an opposite-field three-run homer to right to put the Owls in double-digits.
THE FINISH
Florida Atlantic continued to pile on with another three-spot in the eighth. First, Jake Duer beat out a ground ball to short, allowing Boylston to score. Later in the frame, pinch-hitters Carter Brady and Joey Slattery each contributed run-scoring singles to make it 14-1. Bradley scored three runs on one hit and three walks in the ninth to slightly alter the Owls’ final margin of victory.
THE BATS
FAU finished with 18 hits including three each from John Martinez, Schroeder, and Boylston.
Schroeder homered for the second straight day and finished 3-for-5 with five RBI.
Martinez is 8-for-12 in the last three games with four doubles.
Boylston is 12-for-26 (.462) at the plate this season. He has nine RBI.
Duer recorded his 13th multi-hit game of the season and took the lead in hits across Division I (38).Dylan LaPointe finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
THE ARMS
Tyler Murphy pitched six strong innings and earned the win to improve to 2-0.Murphy tied his season-high with seven strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
Braden Ostrander and Bryan Boully handled one inning each in the seventh and eighth. Neither conceded a hit.
Nick Wimberly recorded the first two outs of the ninth before departing with three runs on his line, only one of which was earned after an infield error.
Dawson Ball struck out the game’s final batter to finish the victory.
