FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 3 South Florida defeated No. 2 North Texas, 58-48, in the semifinals of the 2025 American Women’s Basketball Championship on Tuesday evening, March 11, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the win, the Bulls (22-10) will face No. 9 Rice in the final on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT on ESPN+. This will be the Bulls’ seventh appearance in the championship game, tied for the most in Championship history, and the first since 2022.
The Bulls shot 50 percent (8-16) from the field in the first quarter, with Sammie Puisis scoring seven points on 3-of-4 shooting. South Florida held the Mean Green (24-8) scoreless for 3:15 in the first and started the second quarter with a 20-10 lead.
A North Texas scoring drought of 6:45 in the second quarter gave South Florida a lead of 15 points at halftime (31-16). The Mean Green went on an 11-0 run, with Tommisha Lampkin scoring six points, to cut the lead to four points (33-29) in the third quarter.
After North Texas cut the lead to one point (39-38), South Florida used an 8-0 run to take a nine-point lead in the fourth.
South Florida, who led the entire game, improved to 20-10 all-time in The American Championship.
