UF LAX: No. 6 Gators Welcome in 23rd Ranked Navy for Wednesday Showdown

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Florida lacrosse team (4-2, 0-0 Big 12) hosts No. 23 Navy (5-2, 0-0 Patriot) on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Coverage can be found on ESPN+.

It will be Millitary Appreciation Day, as the UF Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) will take the field before the game to be honored.
The Gators are coming off a 15-9 victory against No. 15 Loyola on Saturday afternoon. Four different Gators recorded hat-tricks in the win, led by Clark Hamilton who totaled four goals and two assists on the day. Kaitlyn Davies, Frannie Hahn and Gianna Monaco each totaled three goals, along with four assists from Jordan Basso.

Series History
This will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two programs, with UF leading the series 2-1. The two teams have not met since March 10, 2020, when the No. 8 Gators defeated No. 19 Navy by a 17-9 margin in Gainesville. UF owns a 2-0 record all-time at home against Navy, with two of three all-time meetings being settled by three goals or less.

Outlook on the Midshipmen
The Midshipmen currently sit at 5-2, coming off a 10-9 loss at Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon. Navy presents a balanced offensive attack, featuring five players with 10 or more goals this season, led by attacker Emily Messinese who has 19 goals and nine assists (both lead the team).

Navy is led by Alyssa Daley in the draw circle, ranking 23rd in the country in draw controls per game, averaging 7.14 per contest.

Two of the Goats
Navy Head Coach Cindy Timchal and UF Head Coach Amanda O’Leary both rank in the top-three among Division l active coaches in career wins, as Timchal ranks first with 583 and O’Leary ranks third with 406.

O’Leary was an assistant coach under Timchal at the University of Maryland from 1992-1993, as the two won a national championship together in 1992. Timchal’s 583 wins are the most in NCAA Division l lacrosse history.

Hamilton Heating Up
Hamilton has notched three straight hat-tricks, good for 12 goals over last three games. The freshman is tied for the team lead in hat-tricks alongside Monaco, with four on the year. Hamilton leads the team in goals with 18 and recorded her first two collegiate assists on Saturday against Loyola.

Basso the Feeder
Basso is coming off a season high four assists in the win against Loyola on Saturday, now with seven assists in her last three games. The graduate student ranks second behind Frannie Hahn in assists with 11 on the year, logging 143 assists in her collegiate career. Basso ranks fourth on the team in points with 17 (six goals, 11 assists).
