American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the final week of the regular season.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Atin Wright, Sr., G, North Texas

Wright averaged 27.0 points and 3.0 rebounds as the Mean Green went 2-1 last week. He scored a conference season-high 42 points against Charlotte on Thursday, one shy of The American’s single-game record. In the contest he was 8-of-12 from 3-point range and 10-for-10 from the free throw line. He also scored 21 points in a win over Wichita State on Monday, March 3.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Matas Vokietaitis, C, Florida Atlantic

Vokietaitis averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games for the Owls last week. He scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots against UAB on Thursday, March 6 before recording 10 points and five rebounds against East Carolina on Sunday, March 9.

HONORABLE MENTION

Ja’Borri McGhee, Jr., G, UAB

McGhee averaged 26.0 points in two games for the Blazers, converting 10 field goals in each game.

PJ Haggerty, R-So., G, Memphis

In wins over UTSA and South Florida, Haggerty averaged 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

Zion Stanford, So., G, Temple

Stanford averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists as the Owls defeated Tulsa and North Texas.

Asher Woods, Jr., G, Tulane

Woods averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 assists in two games last week for the Green Wave.

Dwon Odom, Gr., G, Tulsa

In two games for the Golden Hurricane, Odom averaged 17.0 points and 5.5 assists.
