LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Miami track and field team opened up competition with strong performances at the ACC Indoor Championships on Saturday at Norton Health Care Sport and Learning Center.
George Franks led the way as he set a new school record in the 200m as the junior registered the second-fastest time in prelims at 20.82 to advance to Monday’s finals at 2:10 p.m.
Franks bettered his previous time of 21.02, set on Jan. 31.
Edgar Campre sits in second after the first four events in the heptathlon with 3,194 points. Campre won the 60m with a time of 6.89, before finishing second in the long jump at 7.15m. In the shot put, the Lisbon, Portugal, native registered a throw of 14.66m to top the leaderboard and cleared 1.83m in the high jump.
In the women’s weight throw, Calea Jackson registered the first team points for the Hurricanes as she placed eighth with a personal-best mark of 20.02m.
Aaron Kim closed out the day with a tie for seventh finish in the high jump with a clearance of 2.03m.
Miami returns to the track Sunday at 11 a.m. for the final three events of the heptathlon with the high jump at 1 p.m. and the women’s mile at 3:15 p.m.
