UF MTN: Florida Shuts Out Auburn 7-0

The Gators open conference play with a 7-0 win over the Auburn Tigers

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –  The Florida men’s tennis team defeated No. 35 Auburn 7-0 in their conference opener on Saturday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. The Gators secured the doubles point and posted six singles wins extending their undefeated record at home to 5-0.

UF clinched the doubles point after wins on courts one and two. The Gators gained an early advantage with a 6-4 win from Henry Jefferson<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/henry-jefferson/16661> and Jeremy Jin<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/jeremy-jin/16118> on court two over Alex Frusina and Joey Philips. Florida secured the doubles point after Tanapatt Nirundorn<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/tanapatt-nirundorn/16114> and Adhithya Ganesan<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/adhithya-ganesan/16660> defeated No. 9 Will Nolan and Billy Blaydes 6-4.

Kevin Edengren<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/kevin-edengren/16662> and JanMagnus Johnson<https://floridagators.com/sports/mens-tennis/roster/janmagnus-johnson/17174> were tied 5-5 with Thomas Kennedy and Nicholas Heng before the match was left unfinished.

In singles, UF continued its momentum as secured a straight set 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hamza Nasridinov on court five. Jefferson followed suit, recording another straight set win for Florida. Jefferson defeated Philips 6-1, 6-1 to give UF a 3-0 lead.

The Gators sealed the match on court two, where Ganesan put on a dominant performance over Frusina, posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Despite Florida clinching the match, both teams decided to continue play.

Johnson earned the fifth point for Florida on court three. Johnson took the first set 6-2, but Blaydes responded in the second winning 6-4. Johnson regained control in the super tiebreaker and used an 11-9 effort to extend UF’s lead.

Edengren faced Heng on court six in three sets. Edengren lost the first set 6-0, but responded in the second winning the tiebreak 7-6. This match also went into a super tiebreak with Edengren taking the third 10-7.

No. 62 Jin battled Nolan on court one in the final match of the day. Jin dropped the first set 6-1, but remained focused to secure the tiebreak 7-5. Jin secured the seventh point for the Gators in a 10-5 effort.
