UF SB: No. 2 Gators Move To 8-0 With Run-Rule Shutout Over Stetson

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 2 Florida softball team picked up its sixth run-rule victory in eight games, rolling past Stetson 11-0 in five innings on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Gators move to 8-0.

Florida plated double-digit runs for the fifth time this season against the Hatters (5-1), slugging three home runs and drawing six walks.

The Gators have now outscored their opponents 74-9 and have allowed just eight earned runs in 45 innings.

The Orange & Blue also added a new member to its home run club in the win, with junior Kenleigh Cahalan hitting her first as a Gator.

Nine different Florida players have combined for a nation-leading 18 home runs.

Sophomore Keagan Rothrock made her third start of the season in the circle, wasting no time setting down the top of Stetson’s order with just eight pitches.

The Gators carried their early momentum into the home side of the frame, scoring five runs off three hits.

Senior Kendra Falby stole her way around the bases after hitting a lead-off single to plate the first run of the game.

Junior Jocelyn Erickson followed with her second home run of the season, a two-RBI knock over right center.

Calahan then hit her own two-run long ball as the Gators led 5-0 at the end of the first.

Rothrock continued her domination inside the circle, holding Stetson scoreless over the next three innings.

Reagan Walsh tallied her 17th career sacrifice fly in the third to score Erickson, putting the Gators ahead 6-0.

Florida put itself in run-rule territory in the fifth, plating five runs on two hits, three walks and a Stetson error.

Sophomore Mia Williams opened the inning with a lead off solo opposite field home run, her second of the season and seventh of her career.

Freshman Taylor Shumaker added another run with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Erickson.

Sophomore Ava Brown and Cahalan then drew back-to-back bases loaded walks to score the final two runs of the game.

Rothrock (4-0) allowed just two hits on the night with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.

She has not allowed a run this season in 19 innings pitched,

Notables:

  *   With the win, the Gators are now 21-2 all-time against the Hatters
  *   Senior Kendra Falby stole three bases in the first inning, including a steal of home, to put the first run of the game on the board
  *   Erickson hit her first career triple and her 24th career home run
  *   With a RBI single in the fourth inning of tonight’s game, Shumaker now has 14 RBI in her first eight career games and has driven in a run in six of them. She has also scored a run in every game this season, bring her total to 13
  *   Florida’s six run-rule victories through the first eight games ties the most for the program since 2012
  *   The Gators have hit a home run in seven of eight games and had multi-home run performances in six games
