USF Women’s Golf: Bulls Start Spring Season Off Strong at PDI Intercollegiate, Finish Seventh

TAMPA, Fla (February 4, 2025) – The South Florida women’s golf team posted their season-best score of 855 (-9) this week at the PDI Intercollegiate. They placed seventh behind a field consisting of four of the top-25 teams in the nation.

Freshman Cherry Marley had the best tournament of her young college career. Marley tied for third shooting 9-under through three rounds. She was just one stroke off of the second-place finisher. Her 65 in round one also serves as her low round for the season.

Leonor Medeiros continued her strong senior season, shooting 8-under, which tied her for seventh. Medeiros came into the final round with a vengeance moving up four spots from 11th place after round two. She posted a 69-70-69 in the PDI Intercollegiate.

Alice Webb was on her game as well this week finishing with her three best rounds of the season with a 73-74-71. This should serve as a boost of confidence for the junior moving forward this spring.

Emma Kim shot a 74-72-76, good for 6-over in her season debut. Valentina Bosselmann finished up the tournament shooting a 10-over.

This Bulls team has a lot to be proud following the PDI Intercollegiate. They proved that they have the potential to compete with some of the nation’s top teams.

South Florida will take the course again on February 23 for the Westbrook Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin.

ABOUT USF WOMEN’S GOLF
Tampa native AJ Newell, a former LPGA Tour Player and NCAA All-American, was named head coach of USF women’s golf by Vice President for Athletics Michael Kelly on June 3, 2024.

Newell will look over leadership of the Bulls’ program following a successful three-year stint as assistant coach at the University of Michigan, where she helped lead the Wolverines to three-straight NCAA Regional appearances, a 2022 Big Ten title, and the 2022 NCAA Championship Finals.

In the record-setting 2023-24 campaign, the Bulls won three times and finished in the top four in nine of 10 events. The three wins are the most in a season since four 2011-12. USF finished third in the American Athletic Conference Championship, which equals the best finish in the tournament in program history. In 2022-23 and 2023-24, the Bulls played in back-to-back NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2001-02. Senior standout Melanie Green, the AAC Conference Player of the Year in 2023-24, an all-conference performer in each of her four seasons, was named to the WGCA 2023-24 Division I All-American second team. Green qualified for the 2022 NCAA Regional as an individual and was named a 2023 All-American Honorable Mention. Green and the Bulls reached the NCAA Regional as a team in 2023, marking the program’s first postseason appearance in 11 years.
