Kelly Altman Named Gators Soccer as Assistant Coach

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kelly Altman moves to Florida assistant coach after serving as the team’s Scouting & Player Development Analyst the last two seasons, Gators Head Soccer Coach Samantha Bohon announced Tuesday.

This fall will be Altman’s 19th season working in the soccer coaching field, working at NCAA Division I & III, high school and club levels.

Coaching Experience:
Altman held coaching positions at the University of Dayton, University of New Mexico, Valparaiso University, High Point University and Trinity University, accumulating a combined record of 184-72-45.

Success has followed Altman at every stop. In addition to contributing to a winning percentage above 70%, he has helped his teams to 16 Team Academic-All American Awards, recruited three top 25 classes, coached 17 All-Americans and 36 total professionals. Altman also brings with him many achievements at the high school level, racking up two Texas High School State titles (2008 and 2009) and four district titles while the Head Boys’ Varsity Coach at Central Catholic in San Antonio, Texas. For his efforts, he was named 5A Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Coach-of-the-Year across all sports in 2009.

As a Player:
Altman was a four-year lettermen as a defender for Trinity University (Texas) and was integral part of the Tigers’ 2003 NCAA National Championship title won in his junior season. A team captain in 2004, Altman contributed to the success of a squad which amassed an overall record of 79-5-2 and set an All-Divisions and current record with 43 consecutive wins. Following a stint with professional side Charleston Battery and with his collegiate soccer career complete, Altman maximized his final year of athletic eligibility in 2005, as a kicker on the Tigers football team. An All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) and All-South Region First team honoree, he was named the 2005 SCAC Special Teams Player-of-the-Year.

He was a 2013 Trinity University Athletics Hall of Fame inductee for soccer.

A native of Albuquerque, N.M., Altman comes from a rich family history of soccer players. Father Alan played for Occidental College (Calif.) in the 1970s, older brother Ryan was a Blue Jay at Creighton University from 1999 to 2002 and younger brother Kyle was an All-American at Trinity University from 2004 to 2007 before captaining Minnesota United FC for five seasons.

Altman holds licenses with both the USSF and the USC (formerly NSCAA).

Education:
Altman earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Trinity University in 2005. He added a master’s degree in Sports Media from Valparaiso in 2017.

Altman and his wife, Ally, live in Gainesville.
