Memphis is up five spots to No. 19 in the AP Top 25 and up six spots to No. 16 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
UAB’s Yaxel Lendeborg is tied for fourth in Division I with 12 double-doubles on the season. He is now third all-time in The American with 31 career double-doubles, one behind Cincinnati’s Gary Clark (2014-18) and five behind Dedric Lawson of Memphis (2015-17).
Lendeborg is one of two players in Division I (Duke’s Connor Flagg) that leads his team in points (16.9), rebounds (10.1), assists (4.3), steals (1.6) and blocks (1.6).
GETTING TO THE LINE
UTSA has converted 82.6 percent of their free throws this season, second in Division I. Temple has made 19.0 free throws per game, eighth in Division I, followed by Charlotte in ninth (18.3).
Memphis’ PJ Haggerty has made the second-most free throws in Division I this season with 140 and ranks second in attempts at 174. North Texas’ Atin Wright is shooting 94.7 percent from the line, second in Division I.
POURING IN THE POINTS
Memphis’ PJ Haggerty is second in Division I in scoring with 22.1 points per contest, while UTSA’s Primo Spears is seventh with 21.1 points per game and Temple’s Jamal Mashburn Jr. is right behind Spears at eighth (21.0).
Spears became the sixth player in conference history to score 40 points in a game, dropping 40 against Tulsa on January 7.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS
East Carolina’s RJ Felton has 1,529 points in four seasons, ranking 13th on The American’s scoring list. Next up on the list is David Collins, who scored 1,540 points from 2017-21.
ON THE RUN
UAB is second in Division I with 18.35 fastbreak points per game and leads The American with 84.4 points per game. UTSA is sixth with 17.16 points per game on the break, partly due to averaging 9.7 steals per game, which ranks 13th in Division I.
1,000 POINT CLUB
Against East Carolina on January 11, Haggerty became the 57th player to reach 1,000 points while playing in The American.
CLAMPING DOWN ON DEFENSE
North Texas ranks fourth in Division I in scoring defense at 59.4 points per game allowed and leads The American in scoring margin with +10.7 points per contest.
