IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, January 12.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
J Henry Lyon, Sr., East Carolina
Lyon tied the East Carolina program record in the 1-mile at the Clemson Invitational on January 11, completing the race with a time of 4:08.09. The time is the best mile mark in The American this season.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Cal Abdulky, Sr., Rice
Abdulky took home first place in the weight throw at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational with a distance of 19.39m. His mark is the top in The American and is 45th in the NCAA this season.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Kelly Ufodiama, Fr., East Carolina
Ufodiama set program records in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash, while setting The American record in the 200-meter with a time of 22.99. She become the first Pirate to run a sub-23 second 200-meter and leads the NCAA as the only sub-23 second runner. She is 3rd in the NCAA in the 60-meter with a time of 7.26.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Josie Taylor, Sr., Rice
Taylor finished second place at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.75 meters. Her mark is the 21st best mark in the NCAA this season.
