Tampa, Fla. – Jan. 13, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (11-7, 4-1 AAC) returns to the Yuengling Center to host UAB (11-6, 2-3 AAC) on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the action will stream live on ESPN+.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Bulls return to the YC as victors of six of their last seven contests. The Blazers are on the hunt for their third straight win.
THE SOUTH FLORIDA-UAB SERIES
Tuesday is the 35th meeting between the two squads and the Blazers hold a 23-11 all-time advantage. The last clash was a 72-69 win in Birmingham, Ala. (Feb. 3, 2024).
BEST OF THE BULLS
The Bulls are led by graduate guard Sammie Puisis (15.8 ppg.). Puisis is ranked 4th in the nation with 57 total 3-pointers made and 5th in 3FG Made Per Game (3.17 3FGM). Junior forward Carla Brito holds a team-best 7.3 rebound average. (7th in the American). Graduate guard Mama Dembele is USF’s top assister with 5.0 apg. (90 total assists ranked 17th nationally). In the latest NCAA Nitty Gritties Report, South Florida is ranked 19th NET SOS and 63rd in the NET.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
L’or Mputu has recorded at least a 50.0 field-goal percentage and multiple offensive rebounds in nine straight games. That is tied for the longest streak by any USF player in the last 25 seasons, along with Tamara Henshaw (January – February 2017). Sammie Puisis has recorded at least 10 points in 16 straight true road games. That is tied for the second-longest streak by any USF player this century (Maria Jespersen in 2017- 18) behind a 34-game run from Courtney Williams between 2014 and 2016. The Bulls have started 4-1 or better in conference play for the eighth time in the last 11 seasons (since 2014-15). USF is one of 21 DI programs (and the only current AAC team) with at least eight such starts over that time frame. Romi Levy just played in her 50th career game with South Florida. She is one of two USF players in the last 25 seasons to have at least 600 points, 90 assists, 40 steals, and 40 blocks through 50 career games with the Bulls, along with Inga Orekhova (2012-2013).
