1/11/2025 | Women’s Basketball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls fell in a 73-61 fight against the UAB Blazers on Saturday inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. The Owls fall to 9-8 on the season and 1-3 in AAC play, while UAB moves to 11-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play. HOW IT HAPPENED Lovisa Asbrink Hose got things started for the Owls, connecting on her second career 3-pointer, 3-0. UAB answered back on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the day, 6-3. The Owls rallied back on a 6-3 run to tie things up at nine with 3:05 remaining in the first. Florida Atlantic kept things even at 11-11 through the 2:38-minute mark, but the Blazers closed the period on a 10-3 run to hold a 21-14 lead after the first. Stefanie Ingram got three back to start the second, but back-to-back buckets for the Blazers pushed the deficit back out to nine, 26-17, with 7:09 remaining in the half. Jada Moore scored four unanswered for the Owls, bringing the Owls back within five, 26-21, but UAB responded on an 11-2 run to extend the Blazers’ lead to 14, 37-23, with three minutes to go in the second. A three from Ta’Ziah Jenks and a Stefanie Ingram layup brought the Owls within nine, 39-30, with 34 seconds to go, but the Blazers closed the half with a three to make it a 12-point ballgame at the halftime break, 42-30.The Owls came out hot to open the second half, producing a 13-2 run to cut the deficit down to just one, 44-43, after a layup from Mya Perry. The Blazers answered back, scoring eight unanswered to push the deficit back out to nine, 52-43, with just over three minutes to go. Zahira Arizmendi connected on her first career 3-pointer to make it 52-46, but UAB tacked on five more after a layup and a trio of free throws after a 3-point foul to make it 57-46. Ingram closed the third with a layup and a 3-pointer to make it a nine-point game, 60-51, entering the final 10 minutes of play.After a Blazer three to open the fourth, 63-51, the Owls scored six unanswered to battle back within six, 63-57, with 5:54 to play. Mya hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to five, 65-60, with 4:55 to play, but Florida Atlantic just couldn’t get a shot to fall over the final five minutes of play as the Blazers outscored the Owls 8-1 to close out the contest, taking the 73-61 win. HEAD COACH JENNIFER SULLIVAN POSTGAME THOUGHTS “Disappointing loss. I just didn’t feel like we were, we talked about it in the locker room, as connected as we should have been throughout that game. They did a good job of taking advantage of it.” NOTES AND TEAM STATS Stefanie Ingram led the way for the Owls with a career-high 16 points, shooting 58 percent (7-of-12) from the field and 100 percent (1-of-1) from 3-point range, while also adding six boards and dishing out a team-high four assists. Mya Perry also registered double-figures in the contest, recording 14 points, six boards, and an assist. Lovisa Asbrink Hose led the team on the glass, pulling down a team-high nine boards, alongside seven points, a block, and a steal. The Owls had a strong start to the second half, outscoring the Blazers 21-18 in the third quarter. UP NEXT The Owls will return to the road next week as they head to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 15, against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
