The Legion Of Whom Has Bear Stew In Chicago

By: Jeremy T. Ballreich

December 22nd, 2024, the Detroit Lions headed to Chicago to face off against the Bears. That 22-man IR report was greatly exaggerated. Four guys weren’t on it by Wednesday, but the National Media kept running with it. They had David Montgomery listed. He never went on it. Emmanuel Moseley, been off the IR since Thanksgiving. Iffeatu Melifonwu and Jalen Reeves-Maybin were activated this week. So that went down to 18. Five offensive players and a STs player were on there. So that 18 became 13 on defense. Six were starters to start the season (Derrick Barnes, Marcus Davenport, Aidan Hutchinson, Alex Anzalone, Alim McNeil and Carlton Davis III). The rest were role players and backups. Only 11 take the field, so 55% of our starting defense will not be on it. But we’ve been playing with about 50% of our defensive starters out during that 8-game win streak after Hutchinson went down in week 6.

On to the game, Chicago got the ball, three and out. Lions drive and get an FG. Bad exchange and the Bears fumble the ball back to Detroit.

Jahmyr Gibbs gets his only rushing TD of the day. 10-0. Rome Odunze trying to stretch the field, gets the ball punched out. Detroit Ball. Jake Bates hits his second FG on the day 13-0. Then another failed drive, a punt.

Then Goff hits Jameson Williams on a 50 yard dime in stride. 82 yards later…Touchdown Lions. The score is now 20-0. Looking like the Bears won’t get started. But wait….there’s more!

The Bears score on the ensuing drive where crafty vet Keenan Allen baits Rookie CB Terrion Arnold out of position. Then a one yard pass to Cole Kmet 20-7 Lions over Bears.

The next drive. The Lions drive and score on a screen pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown. Lions up 27-7.

Bears get a big downfield TD pass to, yeah you get it. Keenan Allen taking our rookie CB to school. 45-yard strike. 27-14 at the half.

Second half the Lions drive down and execute a Stumblerooski play where it looked like they fumbled an exchange to Jahmyr Gibbs. To have it be a play action pass to Sam Laporta. 34-14.

Long story short, Lions started playing keep away ball the rest of the Game. Hold on to win 34-17.
