American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the sixth week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tyrese Hunter, Sr., G, Memphis

Hunter dropped 23 points and was 7-of-11 from behind the arc as Memphis went on the road and picked up an overtime win over No. 16 Clemson. His seven triples matched his career high. The senior also added four rebounds and three assists.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Vokietaitis Matas, C, Florida Atlantic

Matas aided the Owls to a pair of victories last week, averaging 15.0 points and 8.5 rebounds. The center had 17 points and eight rebounds against Jacksonville on Tuesday, December 10 before recording 13 points and nine rebounds against Texas State on Saturday.

HONORABLE MENTION

Nik Graves, Jr., G, Charlotte

Graves averaged 19.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the 49ers went 1-1 last week.

Tre Carroll, R-Jr., F, Florida Atlantic

Carroll aided the Owls to two wins by averaging 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals.

Zion Stanford, So., G, Temple

Stanford averaged 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists as the Owls went 2-0 against Holy Family and Hofstra last week.

Primo Spears, Sr., G, UTSA

Spears led the Roadrunners to a pair of wins over North Dakota with 28 points in the home win on Friday, December 13 and 16 more in the away win on Sunday, December 15.

Kaleb Banks, Jr., F, Tulane

Banks averaged 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as the Green Wave went 1-1 last week. His 33 points against Florida State on Saturday were a season-high for The American.
