American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the fifth week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tre Carroll, R-Jr., F, Florida Atlantic

Carroll aided the Owls to a win over local rival FIU with a 24-point, 5-reboud performance on Wednesday, December 4. The redshirt junior was 9-of-14 from the field (64 percent) and 5-of-5 from the line.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

CJ Brown, G, South Florida

Brown helped the Bulls to a win over Stetson on Tuesday, December 3 with five points and two rebounds while dishing out three assists and recording two steals.

HONORABLE MENTION

Yaxel Lendeborg, Sr., F, UAB

Lendeborg posted a big double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds while also dishing out six assists in the Blazers win over Prairie View A&M on Friday, December 6.

PJ Haggerty, R-So., G, Memphis

Haggerty averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 steals, 4.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds as the Tigers went 1-1 last week.

Jayden Reid, So., G, South Florida

Reid scored 23 points in both of the Bulls’ contests last week while also averaging 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds.

Primo Spears, Sr., G, UTSA

Spears averaged 21.5 points in road games at Saint Mary’s and Arkansas last week for the Roadrunners.

Corey Washington, Jr., F, Wichita State

Washington averaged 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds as the Shockers picked up wins over Alcorn State and East Tennessee State.
