BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team fell on a buzzer-beater to Florida Gulf Coast, 80-78, on Saturday evening at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

The Owls were led by junior forward Baba Miller, who put forth a career game with 25 points on 9-for-11 shooting and 11 rebounds, as well as graduate guard KyKy Tandy with 15 points. The pair knocked in five three-pointers each.

FIRST HALF

Scoring began with an alley oop dunk after Miller lobbed it up to freshman center Matas Vokietaitis. The Owls built a double-digit lead thanks to finding their shooting stroke, with 11 of their final 13 field goals in the half coming from beyond the arc.

Miller was perfect in the opening 20 minutes, going 6-for-6 with four three-pointers, to build a 52-40 halftime advantage.

SECOND HALF

The Eagles built a run of their own to eventually build an eight-point lead with three minutes to go, but the Owls came storming back.

Five straight points from Miller, first a three pointer from the top of the key followed by a soaring slam dunk on the alley-oop pass brought the game within three with 40 seconds remaining. Tandy then nailed a triple to tie the game and electrify the Elly before a final shot by the Eagles sunk in the basket as time expired.
