VB: Miami Earns Sweep Over Duke in Regular Season Finale

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (21-10, 12-8) swept the Duke Blue Devils (10-21, 6-14), 3-0, on Friday afternoon in the Knight Sports Complex in the team’s last regular season match.

The Hurricanes tallied 41 kills, 47 digs, 10 blocks and seven aces. Junior Flormarie Heredia Colon and sophomore Grace Lopez led the team with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. On the defensive side, senior Ashley Carr claimed nine blocks and six kills.

Sophomore Grace Lopez and junior Dalia Wilson opened set one with three kills each to lead 11-7. Duke kept it close the remainder of the set, tying it at 17-all. Senior Ashley Carr registered a monster block, followed by another Lopez kill to lead 20-17. Miami claimed 18 kills to take set one, 25-22.

Duke started the second set with the lead until the Hurricanes took over the lead after a 3-0 run following three straight blocks from Lopez and Carr. Miami then extended the lead, 17-10, after back-to-back kills from Wilson and senior Nyah Anderson. After six blocks, the Hurricanes secured set two in a dominant 25-11 fashion.

The Blue Devils got off to a 4-0 run for the lead before Miami went on two 4-0 runs to go up 15-9. Miami maintained the lead to take complete control of the final set after hitting .250 as a team, notching the 25-15 set win.

The Hurricanes will await the NCAA Selection Show for a spot in the tournament.
