RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Miami volleyball team (20-10, 11-8) fell to the NC State Wolfpack (15-12, 10-9), 3-1, on Wednesday evening at Reynolds Coliseum.
The Hurricanes tallied 59 kills, 68 digs and 56 assists. Junior Flormarie Heredia Colon claimed 24 kills, 11 digs, 25.5 points and one block.
The match opened tied at 10-all, until Miami went into the media timeout with the 15-13 lead after four kills from senior Nyah Anderson. NC State went on a 8-1 run to then take the 21-16 advantage, until Miami tied it at 24-all. The Wolfpack earned the tight set, 26-24.
Miami once again led 10-9 to start set two, until NC State went on a 4-1 run to take the 19-15 lead before claiming their 15th kill of the set to go up 22-17. NC State took set two, 25-20.
The Wolfpack got out to a hot 9-5 start before the Hurricanes went on a 3-0 run to only trail 10-8. NC State maintained the lead to go up 18-15, until Miami stormed back for the 6-0 run to lead 23-20 after three consecutive kills from Heredia Colon. The Hurricanes secured their first set, 25-21 and avoided the sweep.
Set four was close from start to finish, with both teams tied at 12. NC State had their own 4-0 run before Miami scored three unanswered points for the 17-16 lead as Heredia Colon and sophomore Grace Lopez earned double-doubles in kills and digs. Despite the momentum, the Wolfpack took the final set, 25-20.
The Hurricanes will head home for their final game of the regular season against Duke on Nov. 29.
