Wichita State Wins 2024 American Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship

WICHITA, Kan. – The No. 4 seed Wichita State Shockers used a third straight sweep to defeat No. 6 Florida Atlantic 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) to win the 2024 American Volleyball Championship at Charles Koch Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The sweep marked the first time this season that the Shockers have swept opponents in three straight matches, having swept No. 5 Tulsa and No. 1 South Florida in the tournament.

The Shockers (18-13) were led by Brooklyn Leggett (13) and Morgan Stout (12), combining for 25 of the Shocker’s 43 kills.  Izzi Strand paced the Shockers with 31 assists, while adding four kills. Overall, Wichita State hit at a clip of .259, while holding the Owls to just .125.

Wichita State finished with seven team blocks, led by Stout and Emerson Wilford both finishing with three.  Strand and Sarah Barham both ended with two blocks. Libero Katie Galligan anchored the defense with a game-high 15 digs.

The Owls were led by Valeria Rosado, recording 11 kills while hitting .267. Katelynn Robine added eight kills. Victoria Hensley paced the Owls with 28 assists.

Stout was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, leading all players with 3.89 kills per set and 4.67 points per set over the course of three matches.
