WBB | Rodgers Named AAC Freshman of the Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. – After helping lead the Owls to a 58-48 win over Mercer and in a battle at Florida, Florida Atlantic women’s basketball freshman guard Erin Rodgers was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.

The honor marks the first weekly honor for the Owls this season and the first career accolade for Rodgers.

Erin Rodgers had a great debut for the Owls, helping lead the team to a win against the Mercer Bears. Erin finished the week with a team third-best 20 points, averaging 10 points per contest, shooting 35 percent (6-of-17) from the field, 50 percent (1-of-2) from beyond the arc, and 88 percent (7-of-8) from the line, in addition to adding 10 rebounds, averaging five per contest, five steals, and an assist.

Rodgers opened the week with nine points, shooting 33 percent (3-of-9) from the field, 100 percent (1-of-1) from 3-point range, and 100 percent (2-of-2) from the line, with two rebounds against Florida, before finishing the week with a season-high 11 points, shooting 38 percent (3-of-8) from the field and 83 percent (5-of-6) from the line while also tallying a team-leading eight rebounds and five steals, and adding an assist in the win over Mercer.

The Owls continue their three-game homestand this week as they host the North Florida Ospreys for Education Day on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
