11/7/2024 | Men’s Soccer BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men’s soccer (7-5-3, 3-3-1 AAC) will host FIU (4-5-6, 2-2-3 AAC) in the AAC Quarterfinal at the FAU Soccer Stadium on Friday night at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to take on top-seed Memphis in the semifinals next Wednesday. As always, admission at the FAU Soccer Stadium is free. However, parking will be limited due to the men’s basketball home opener happening simultaneously. Fans must arrive early and park in the lots directly adjacent to the Tom Oxley Center or in the FAU Baseball baseball parking lot. Gates to the FAU Soccer Stadium will open at 6 p.m. and the first 100 students will get a free t-shirt and a free Owl Towel. About the Owls The Owls are looking to advance to the semifinals for the second straight year. On Thursday, Mamadou Diarra was named AAC Offensive Player of the Year. Diarra, Noah Kvifte, and Aboubacar Traore were named to the AAC First Team. Callum Frogson and Sebastian Zettl were named to the Second Team. Kasper Heerfordt was named to the All-Freshman Team.As a team, the Owls lead the American in shots per game, shots on goal per game, goals, assists, and points. Individually, Mamadou Diarra and Noah Kvifte are tied for the AAC lead with eight goalsAboubacar Traore leads the AAC with 10 assists. Last time we saw the Owls they were running over Charlotte in route to a 6-1 victory on senior night. About the Panthers FIU is the five-seed in the AAC Tournament.The Panthers are 0-1-4 in their last five games. Series History This is a rematch of last year’s AAC Quarterfinals which Florida Atlantic won 1-0 when Noah Kvifte scored with five seconds left in regulation. When these two teams met on October 20 in Miami it was once again not without drama. Coincidental red cards were handed out in the 31st minute so both teams played the last hour with 10 men. FIU took a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute before Arthur Widiez converted a PK for the Owls to tie it seven minutes later. Matthew Alfred picked a good time for his first goal as an Owl when he scored the eventual game-winner from close range in the 83rd minute. After FIU won nine straight against the Owls from 2014-2022, FAU has now won the last three (all one-goal games). What’s Next The semifinals and championship are scheduled for next week in Memphis.
