American Athletic Conference Volleyball Release – November 6

BATTLE AT THE TOP

Four teams enter the weekend within one game of each other for the top spot in The American. Rice (10-2) and South Florida (10-2) are tied for first, while East Carolina (9-3) and Wichita State (9-3) are one match behind.  Just four matches remain as all four teams battle for a conference championship. Rice will take on Wichita State on Friday in Houston at 7 p.m. ET, while the Bulls will travel to East Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m..

EAST CAROLINA STREAKING

The East Carolina Pirates have entered a hot streak, winning their last six matches to pull within one game of first place. four of the six wins have been sweeps, including back-to-back sweeps last weekend. The Pirates have a chance to pull closer this weekend as they take on first place South Florida in Greenville on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The Pirates have yet to lose a home match this year, sporting an 8-0 record.

The American Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship will return for the first time since 2020. Held in Wichita from Nov. 22-24, the top eight teams in the conference will make it. Heading into this weekend, all 13 teams are still in play to make the tournament.

DISHING THEM OUT

Three American setters are ranked in the Top 20 in the NCAA in total assists. Florida Atlantic’s Victoria Hensley is 8th in the nation with 971 assists, while South Florida’s Caroline Dykes is 12th with 944 and Wichita State’s Izzi Strand is 17th with 927.

LATEST RPI RANKINGS

The American has five schools ranked in the Top 100 of the latest edition of the NCAA RPI, led by Rice at 36.  Wichita State stands at 52, followed by South Florida (63), East Carolina (84) and Tulsa (94).
