TIPPING OFF THE SEASON
Eleven of The American’s men’s basketball teams tip of the 2024-25 season on Monday, November 4, including defending American regular season champion South Florida facing No. 21 Florida in Jacksonville at 8:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
Rice and North Texas will tip off the season on Tuesday, November 5.
UAB PICKED AS AMERICAN FAVORITE
Defending American Athletic Conference champion UAB has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2024-25 American men’s basketball title in voting done by the league’s head coaches.
UAB received nine first-place votes and a total of 141 points to be named first, while Memphis, which earned four first-place votes, was selected second with 136 points.
South Florida, the 2023-24 American regular season champion, was picked third with 108 points, followed by Wichita State in fourth place with 102 points. Florida Atlantic was picked fifth with 97 points, followed by Temple (86), North Texas (83), Charlotte (65), East Carolina (63), Tulsa (44), UTSA (35), Tulane (35) and Rice (18).
BLAZERS RETURN BULK FROM NCAA SQUAD
The UAB roster features a large amount of returning production from last season’s NCAA Tournament squad, including five players that started a game. The Blazers return 62.3% of its scoring from last season and 60.7% of its rebounding.
YAXELBORG NAMED TO WATCH LISTS
UAB’s Yaxel Lendeborg, the American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year was named to multiple award watch lists ahead of the 2024-25 season, including the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Watch List and the Karl Malone Award Watch List.
