BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic football team fell to USF on Friday evening by a score of 44-21.
With the loss, the Owls move to 2-6 on the season.
FIRST HALF
The Owls leaned on redshirt junior RB C.J. Campbell Jr. early, carrying the ball seven times for 49 yards in the opening quarter. He found the end zone on a bounce to the outside for the first score of the game to put Florida Atlantic up 7-0.While USF responded with points of their own, Campbell broke free for another touchdown, left untouched for a 30-yard run to put the Owls back on top 14-7 entering halftime.
As a team, FAU averaged 6.8 yards per carry in the first two quarters, rushing for 149 yards on 22 attempts.
SECOND HALF
Campbell achieved the hat trick in the third quarter when he raced past defenders in the middle of the field, turning it into a 63-yard receiving touchdown.
OFFENSE
Campbell became the second Owl this season to record three touchdowns in a game, joining backfield mate redshirt junior RB Zuberi Mobley (vs. FIU)
Mobley added 66 yards on the ground, including the game’s longest rush at 40For the second time this season, Fancher threw for more than 300 yards, finishing with 306
Redshirt sophomore WR Omari Hayes had a game-high seven receptions for 73 yards
DEFENSE
For the third time in his young collegiate career, true freshman CJ Heard logged double-digit tackles. He finished with 13, the most by an Owl in 2024
Grad student Jackson Ambush registered his first sack of the season
Junior safety Phillip Dunnam had an all-around day with seven tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass breakup
Graduate LB Eddie Williams registered two TFLs
