10/29/2024 | Women’s Basketball BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women’s basketball faced off in a preseason tune-up on Tuesday, earning a 111-29 exhibition win against the Fort Lauderdale Eagles at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. HOW IT HAPPENED The Owls scored nine unanswered over the first two minutes of play to take an early 9-0 lead. Florida Atlantic continued to shine offensively in the first, outscoring the Eagles 16-4 to extend the Owls’ lead to 21, 25-4, at the 3:49-minute mark of the first. The Eagles scored back-to-back jumpers to cut the lead to 17, 25-8, however the Owls closed out the first on a 5-2 run to extend their lead back to 21 at the end of the first, 31-10. Florida Atlantic continued their momentum into the second, outscoring Fort Lauderdale 10-2 through the second-quarter media timeout to extend the Owls’ lead to 29, 41-12. The Owls dominated the Eagles defensively, causing six turnovers over the remainder of the second, turning defense into offense as the Owls’ closed the half on a 22-6 run to take a 45-point advantage into the halftime break, 63-18.Out of the break, the Owls continued to flex their offensive prowess, outscoring the Eagles 14-5, capped off by back-to-back buckets from Maria Myklebust, to lead 77-23 at the third quarter media timeout. The Owls closed out the third on a 9-4 run to extend their lead to 59, 86-27, entering the final 10 minutes of play. Florida Atlantic locked in defensively in the final quarter of play, holding Fort Lauderdale to just one basket as they outscored the Eagles 25-2 over the final 10 minutes of play to seal the 111-29 victory. NOTES & STATS Ta’Ziah Jenks posted a double-double, tying for a game-leading 15 points, while also grabbing 11 boards. Mya Perry and Jada Moore also posted 17 points each, while Stefanie Ingram and Kristina Godfrey tied for a game-high eight assists in the win. UP NEXT Florida Atlantic will now prepare for its season opener on Nov. 4 as the Owls head to Gainesville, Florida, to take on the Florida Gators. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Exactech Arena at Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
