American Athletic Conference Volleyball Release – October 23

OWLS TAKE DOWN TOP TWO AAC TEAMS

Two teams entered the weekend undefeated last week, and both left with at least least one loss after taking on Florida Atlantic. The Owls took down South Florida to hand the Bulls their first loss of the season, 3-1, while also handing Rice their second straight loss of the season in a straight set victory. Florida Atlantic will head to North Carolina to take on East Carolina (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Charlotte (Sunday, 1 p.m.).

SECOND HALF OF SCHEDULE BEGINS

The American Athletic Conference volleyball schedule begins the back stretch this week. With eight games down and eight games remaining, South Florida sits atop the leaderboard with a 7-1 record, followed by Rice at 6-2. Seven teams are within one match of each other with either a 5-3 record or 4-4 record.

The South Florida Bulls sit at 7-1 in the conference this season and a large part can be contributed to their setter play. As a team, the Bulls are averaging 12.97 assists per set, the 14th best mark in the nation. Caroline Dykes is averaging 10.90 assists per set, the ninth most in the NCAA this season.

TULSA’S DEFENSIVE DUO

In conference play, Tulsa’s defensive combination of middle blocker Tytiana Johnson and libero Marta Pecalli have been a force. Johnson leads the conference with 1.48 blocks per set, while Pecalli leads the league in digs per set with 5.19.

FIRST RPI RELEASED

The American has four schools ranked in the Top 100 of the latest edition of the NCAA RPI, led by Rice at 39.  South Florida stands at 60, followed by Wichita State (78) and Tulsa (81).
