American Athletic Conference Volleyball Release – October 7

RICE MOVES TO 4-0 IN AAC PLAY

The Rice Owls continued their undefeated stretch in conference play last weekend and took down two previously undefeated teams on the way.  Rice won a pair of road matches, defeating Tulsa in four sets before defeating Wichita State in five sets. The Owls will take on North Texas and East Carolina this week in Houston.

SOUTH FLORIDA STAYS UNDEFEATED IN AAC

The South Florida Bulls joined the Owls as the final two undefeated teams in The American, improving their winning streak to four matches.  The Bulls swept Temple in Philadelphia to open the weekend before returning to Tampa to take down Memphis in four sets.  The Bulls will have a pair of road matches this weekend, traveling to Wichita State on Friday before ending in Tulsa on Sunday.

BANKS DOMINATES THE NET

Temple senior middle blocker Chelci Banks had an impressive week on the defensive side for the Owls, averaging 2.33 blocks per set in a pair of matches. For the week, it was the 8th highest blocks per set in the nation.

GOLDEN HURRICANES STOUT ON DEFENSE

The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes are in the Top 10 in the nation in digs per set this year. Heading into the weekend, Tulsa is ranked No. 7 in the NCAA in digs per set with 17.62. Libero Marta Pecalli leads the Golden Hurricane with 4.83 digs per set – ranked 24th in the NCAA.

FIRST RPI RELEASED

The initial RPI rankings were released on October 6 and The American saw four schools ranked in the Top 100, led by Rice at 30.  Tulsa stands at 59, followed by Wichita State (78) and South Florida (88).  East Carolina is just outside the Top 100, sitting at 101.
