FIVE TEAMS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY AT 2-0
During last weekend’s conference opening matches, five teams won both of their matches – Tulsa, Rice, Wichita State, South Florida and North Texas. The Rice Owls will have a chance to take on two of those teams this weekend as they travel to Tulsa on Friday before ending the weekend in Wichita to take on the Shockers on Sunday.
ANDRADE’S IMPRESSIVE WEEK
South Florida began the conference season 2-0 thanks in large part to Maria Clara Andrade’s performance. The junior averaged 6.17 points per set against Charlotte and East Carolina – tied for the 11th most points per set in the country last week.
TULANE, UAB LOOK BATTLE FOR CONFERENCE WIN
After both starting the season 0-2 in conference play, Tulane and UAB will face off in New Orleans on Wednesday night as both teams look to pick up its first conference win. The match will feature UAB’s Jorda Crook (3.04 k/s) and Tulane’s Sami Jacobs (3.00 k/s) – the 8th and 10th ranked players in the conference in kills per set.
TEAM EFFORT
The Florida Atlantic Owls are currently Top 20 in the nation in two categories – team assists and team kills. The Owls are 17th in the nation in team assists with 680, while ranking 19th in the nation in team kills with 728. Both are also the top mark in The American.
SHOCKERS EFFICIENT OFFENSE
The Wichita State Shockers are making the most of their attacks this season. They currently lead The American and rank 23rd in the nation in hitting percentage at .318, while ranking 26th in the nation in kills per set with 15.13.
