Shortly after the public announcement of the conference’s women’s basketball schedule on Thursday, we discovered a flaw in its structure that created a competitive imbalance outside our acceptable threshold.
We worked through the night with our scheduling vendor to adjust the existing schedule with as few changes as possible. Unfortunately, that process did not produce a composite schedule that satisfied our basic requirements. Therefore, we will need to issue a new composite schedule for conference games, ideally, no later than Monday, Sept. 30.
This issue should have been identified and resolved well before the public announcement of the conference schedule. We understand and regret the inconvenience that this causes to our institutions and our fans. The integrity and fairness of our conference schedules across all sports is among our highest priorities and we will take every step to provide a sensible and equitable competitive experience for our student-athletes.
