UF MTN: 3 Gators Prepare for ITA All-American Championships

Three Gators will compete in the Fall season’s individual championship event.

Tulsa, Okla. – Three Gators will be traveling to the ITA All-American Championships starting on Saturday. Tanapatt Nirundorn and JanMagnus Johnson will be competing in
pre-qualifying singles while Jeremy Jin will see action in the main draw for singles. On the doubles side, duo Jin/Tanapatt will compete in the qualifying round slated for the beginning of next week.

Nirundorn will be making his first fall tournament appearance of the season in Tulsa. The junior closed out last season with a six-match win streak to end conference and tournament action. Nirundorn’s last appearance at the ITA All-American Championships includes a win over then-ranked No. 61 Pablo Masjuan in the qualifying round.

Jin will also be competing in his first fall tournament of the season. The Australia native ended the previous fall tournament season with a 6-2 record in singles. Jin made a run through the qualifying rounds at the 2023 ITA’s and reached main draw action. He will be competing in the Main Draw Round of 64 on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Johnson recorded his first singles win of the fall season at the SEC Challenge. Johnson’s last outing at the ITA All-American Championships included a singles won over then-ranked No. 16 Pierre-Yves Bailly and a main draw appearance. After going 1-2 last weekend, Magnus hopes to work his way into the qualifying round that starts Sept. 23.

Florida has had a total of three ITA All-American winners. Ben Shelton clinched the Gators’ first ITA All-American Championships singles title in 2021.
In doubles competition, Olivier Levant/Nathan Overholser secured the title for the first time in 2000 followed by Johannes Ingildsen/Alfredo Perez in 2017.

The 2024 ITA Men’s All-American Championships will have a draw size of the following, Singles: Pre-Qualifying (128), Qualifying (64), Main Draw (64) and Doubles: Pre-Qualifying (32), Qualifying (32), Main Draw (32). From this, ten singles players (10) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (eight main draw quarterfinalists & two feed-in consolation finalists). Meanwhile, four doubles teams (4) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the All-American Championships (four main draw semifinalists).
