Alvin Kamara, Jessie Bates & Austin Seibert Named Week 2 NFC Players of the Week

NEW YORK — Sept. 18, 2024 — New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, Atlanta Falcons safety Jessie Bates and Washington Commanders kicker Austin Seibert are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for Week 2 (September 12, 15-16).

OFFENSE: RB ALVIN KAMARA, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

  • Kamara scored an NFL season-high four touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving) and totaled 180 scrimmage yards (115 rushing, 65 receiving), helping New Orleans defeat Dallas, 44-19. Kamara’s Saints lead the NFL with 91 points this season, the most points by a team in its first two games of a season in 15 years.
  • This is the third-career Offensive Player of the Week Award for Kamara and first since 2021:
    • 2020: Week 16
    • 2021: Week 7
    • 2024: Week 2
  • Kamara becomes the first New Orleans running back to earn the honor three times.

DEFENSE: S JESSIE BATES, ATLANTA FALCONS

  • Bates recorded 12 tackles, two passes defensed, one interception and a tackle for loss in Atlanta’s 22-21 come-from-behind victory against Philadelphia. After a crucial pass defense in the end zone, Bates registered the game-sealing interception with 27 seconds remaining.
  • This is the third-career Defensive Player of the Week Award for Bates, tying Deion Jones, Deion Sanders and Chuck Smith for the most-ever by a Falcon.

  • Bates becomes the second former Wake Forest Demon Deacon to win Player of the Week three-or-more times, joining Michael McCrary (four times).

SPECIAL TEAMS: K AUSTIN SEIBERT, WASHINGTON COMMANDERS

  • Seibert recorded the second-most points in the NFL in Week 2 (21), converting all seven of his field goal attempts in the Commanders’ 21-18 victory over the Giants. His franchise-record seven field goals are the most made in a game since 2019.
  • This is the first-career Special Teams Player of the Week Award for Seibert, as he becomes the third Washington kicker to earn the honor in the past 10 years, joining Dustin Hopkins (twice) and Joey Slye.
  • Seibert becomes the second former Oklahoma kicker to win Special Teams Player of the Week, joining Garrett Hartley (Week 2, 2010).
