UF VB: Parks Pockets SEC Freshman of the Week

Taylor Parks earns her first-career SEC Honor.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After assisting the undefeated No. 11 Florida volleyball team to a .317 average attacking percentage this past weekend, setter Taylor Parks was awarded Freshman of the Week – the league announced Monday.

The honor marks the first of her career and becomes the 17th player in program history to garner the award. Additionally, it marks the first SEC weekly accolade for the Gators during the 2024 season.

The Clearwater, FL native made her Gator debut as the starting setter in Florida’s 3-1 win over Colorado State on Friday, Aug. 30. The rookie dished out a career-high 44 assists to help her team finish with a .301 hitting clip in the season opener, while recording four digs, three kills, three aces and one block of her own.

Parks posted a career-high four kills in Florida’s win over Northern Colorado on Aug. 31, and dropped three aces for the second-consecutive match. Additionally, she tallied 36 assists, five digs and one block in the four setter.

The Florida native commanded the Gators offense to a season-high .361 hitting clip in Sunday’s sweep against Michigan State, as the Gators posted 47 kills in the three setter. She also dished out 34 assists and recorded a career-high seven digs.

Following her three days of play, Parks totaled 114 assists,16 digs, 16 points, nine kills, six aces and two blocks to average 10.36 assists, 1.45 digs,1.45 points, 0.55 aces and 0.18 blocks per set.

The Gators welcome South Florida, Southern Indiana and Ohio State to Gainesville for the Florida Invitational from Friday, Sept. 6 through Sunday, Sept. 8. Ohio State and Southern Indiana kick off the three days of play on Friday at 4 p.m. ET with Florida and USF following at 7 p.m. ET. The Gators and Southern Indiana will go head-to-head for the first time on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, with Ohio State and USF at 6 p.m. ET. The Invitational concludes on Sunday, with Southern Indiana and USF playing at 1 p.m. ET before the Gators and Ohio State compete against each other at 4 p.m. All matches will be played inside the Exactech Arena at Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
