EAST LANSING, Mich. – Florida Atlantic football opens the 2024 season Friday against Michigan State at 7 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network and will also be aired on Fox Sports 640 AM South Florida. Ken LaVicka and former Owl offensive lineman Chris Newbold will have the local call.
Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Tom Herman enters his second season at the helm of the Owls. Quarterback newcomer Cam Fancher will be under center. The Ohio native will be the 14th opening day starter for Florida Atlantic, which suits up for the 24th season in program history.
ADDITIONALLY
More than half of the Owls (56) will suit up an an FAU uniform for the first time. The uniforms will be navy helmet, sand jersey and sand pants. The 2024 Owls represent 15 states and five countries including Australia, Canada, Germany, Puerto Rico (unincorporated territory) and the United States. There is the potential for the Owls to start a true freshman tonight. If so, he will be the eighth to do so since 2014, four of whom earned an opportunity to extend their playing careers in the NFL and one, Jaden Wheeler will play in tonight’s game. Along side Wheeler are seven players who are among preseason honorees or on preseason watch lists.
