Marlins Complete Trade with Yankees

MIAMI MARLINS ACQUIRE AGUSTÍN RAMÍREZ, JARED SERNA,

AND ABRAHAN RAMÍREZ FROM NEW YORK YANKEES IN EXCHANGE FOR JAZZ CHISHOLM JR.

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced that the team has acquired top prospects C Agustín Ramírez, INF Jared Serna, and INF Abrahan Ramírez from the New York Yankees in exchange for INF/OF Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Ag. Ramírez, 22, is rated as the third-best prospect in the Yankees system by Baseball America, and has slashed .269/.358/.504/.862 (90×335) in 87 games between Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre (29 games) and Double-A Somerset (58 games) in 2024 with 17 doubles, a career-best 20 home runs, and 69 RBI while walking 42 times against 66 strikeouts. Signed by the Yankees as an International free agent on July 12, 2018, Ramírez owns a career .981 fielding percentage at the position, a .267 AVG (315×1181), and an .819 OPS in five professional seasons.

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the right-handed hitting catcher enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023, beginning the season with Single-A Tampa and finishing at Double-A Somerset, combining to go 115×424 (.271) with 24 doubles, 18 homers, and 69 RBI in 114 games across three levels. He was tabbed the South Atlantic League Player of the Month for July, finishing the campaign with a .415 AVG (34×82) and 1.223 OPS with 10 doubles and six home runs.

Serna, 22, who is ranked by Baseball America as the Yankees’ No. 11 prospect, has slashed .253/.341/.444/.785 (86×340) in 88 games for High-A Hudson Valley in 2024, with 26 doubles, 13 home runs, and 50 RBI. The 2023 MiLB.com Organization All-Star and Florida State League Postseason All-Star has made 78 starts this season at shortstop, posting a .975 fielding percentage (7 E/277 TC) in 665.1 innings, while also seeing time at second base (eight games). In four professional seasons since signing with the Yankees as an International free agent on July 2, 2019 the Guaymas, Mexico native owns a career .267/.362/.446/.809 (312×1167) slash line in 309 games with 74 doubles, 41 homers, and 183 RBI. The right-handed hitter also earned Mexican Pacific Winter League Rookie of the Year honors after hitting .310 (72×232) with 23 extra-base hits and a .844 OPS in 61 games for the Charros de Jalisco during this past off-season.

Ab. Ramírez, 19, is batting .348 (55×158) with 14 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 24 RBI and 29 walks against 30 strikeouts in 49 games with the FCL Yankees. The left-handed hitter owns a .333 AVG (107×321) in 110 games in the Yankees system since signing as an International free agent on January 15, 2022. The versatile defender has appeared in 49 games (42 starts) at second base, 37 games (36 starts) at third base, 16 games (13 starts) in the outfield, and one game at shortstop.

Chisholm Jr., 26, slashed .249/.323/.407/.730 (96×386) in 101 games with Miami this season with 46 runs scored, 14 doubles, a career-high tying four triples, 13 home runs, 50 RBI, and a career-high 39 walks. The left-handed hitter has posted a .246 AVG (362×1471) in 403 career games with the Marlins in parts of five Major League seasons (2020-24) with 57 doubles, 66 home runs, 205 RBI, and a .749 OPS. The Nassau, Bahamas native was acquired by Miami from Arizona in a deadline trade during the 2019 season.

With Ag. Ramírez added to the Marlins 40-man roster, it stands at 39.
