| 7/17/2024 | Women’s Golf BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women’s golf will compete in nine events in the 2024-25 fall and spring schedule leading up to the American Conference Championship in Brooksville, Fla., next April. Led by fourth-year head coach Heather Bowie Young, the fall portion of the schedule will include four tournaments starting September 8, with the Golfweek Fall Invite in South Carolina. The Owls will test their mettle against Big 12 competition at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. September 21-23. The fall campaign wraps with two October events. The Southern (hosted by Georgia Southern) will be held in Savannah, Ga., for the second consecutive year. Then it’s a new event for the Owls as they’ll compete in Miami’s Hurricane Invitational in nearby Coral Gables. The Owls will start the spring season by hosting the FAU Paradise Invitational for the ninth consecutive year. Osprey Point GC will once again be the venue. The Reynolds Lake Oconee Invite in Georgia and the Gators Invitational in Gainesville – two familiar events from last season’s schedule – precede a new addition to close out March. The Owls will head to Phoenix, Ariz., for the PING Invitational hosted by Arizona State. The American Conference Championship returns to Southern Hills in Brooksville, Fla., April 14-16. The Owls will hope another postseason invitation follows that. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 5-7. Last season, FAU’s season continued past the conference tournament for the first time in program history when they competed in the National Golf Invitational.  “This is a strong schedule with several events that we’ve competed in in the past as well as some new ones,” noted Young. “It’s a good mix of events in Florida and nationally, and it will be fun to take the team back to a tournament I competed in as a student-athlete at the Ping/ASU Invitational.”The roster will feature four returners, led by sophomores Charlotte Perkins and Giulia Scarcello, as well as seniors Olivia Florence and Autumn King. The five newcomers include four freshmen and one graduate transfer. Amelia Cobb (Ormond Beach), Nancy Cox (Ponte Vedra Beach), and Madeline Rathjen (St. Augustine) are all native Floridians who opted to stay close to home for their college journeys. Miriam Barcalova is a native of Prague in the Czech Republic. Graduate senior Lena Hassert, a native of Kreuzau, Germany, will make the move to south Florida after three seasons at Nebraska. “We graduated five players who contributed greatly to our program,” Young added. “This fall we welcome four freshmen and one graduate so I’m excited to see how this group bonds together. I’m looking forward to seeing them compete.” |
