UF T&F: Gracelyn Leiseth Crowned U.S. U20 Champion in Shot Put and Discus

The freshman punches her ticket to the World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A week after competing in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, freshman Gracelyn Leiseth claimed two U20 Championships as she competed at the USA Track & Field U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

During Wednesday’s Discus Throw competition, Leiseth set a new personal best of 54.72m/179’6” to claim the U20 Discus Championship. The freshman, who already stood at No. 10 on the UF All-Time Top 10 List with her previous best mark of 54.26m/178’0”, moved up two spots to No. 8 after her performance.

The following day, the South Dakota native claimed the top spot in the Shot Put competition with a opening throw of 16.65m/54’7.50”. Leiseth, who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the Shot Put, holds a UF All-Time Top 10 mark in the event as she has the fifth best throw in school history at 17.70m/58’1”.

With both U.S. Championships under her belt, Leiseth advances to the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships which is set to be held in Lima, Peru between August 27 and August 31.
