CLEARWATER, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball will start its postseason journey on Tuesday against Tulane in the first game of the American Conference Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. The Owls and the Green Wave are scheduled for the final game of day one so first pitch is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
OWLS IN REVIEW
The Owls needed a win vs. UTSA or a loss by USF vs. UAB on Saturday. Though the Bulls did fall to the Blazers, FAU took care of its end of the deal as well, defeating the Roadrunners 6-4 to jump into sixth place in the AAC standings. Daulton Frank capped off a comeback from a four-run deficit with his second home run of the season – a two-run shot – in the eighth inning to put the Owls up 6-4. Danny Trehey closed out his seventh save of the season with a clean ninth inning.
WHO’S HOT
Christian Adams enters the tournament 14-for his last- 31 over the last 10 games. Adams has three doubles and eight runs scored in that stretch.
Brando Leroux is 8-for-13 in the last five games with three doubles, one home run, and five runs scored.
THE OPPONENT
Tulane is the defending AAC Tournament champions. The Green Wave finished the regular season 31-24 overall and 15-12 in conference play. Offensively, junior infielder Brady Marget leads the team with a .330 average and 50 RBI.
The Green Wave will start righty Chandler Welch on the mound on Tuesday. Welch was 6-3 with a 4.58 ERA in the regular season. When he faced the Owls back on April 20, he went six innings with three runs allowed.
OPPONENT HISTORY
Tulane took two of three from the Owls in Boca Raton in late April. In the series opener, C.J. Williams – Tuesday’s projected starter for the Owls – tossed the program’s first complete game shutout since 2016.
WHAT’S NEXT
The Owls will face Charlotte or UTSA in the second game of the double elimination tournament either Wednesday or Thursday depending on Tuesday’s result.
