Lynn Men’s Golf’s Manzoni to Represent Italy at 2019 Spirit International Tournament

BOCA RATON, Fla.
– Lynn University men’s golfer Giovanni Manzoni, an integral part of the Fighting Knights’ 2019 National Championship team, has been selected by the Italian Golf Federation to participate in the Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Houston, Texas from Nov. 7-9.

Manzoni has been playing his best golf of late, winning the Swiss International Amateur Championship this past summer. With that victory, the sophomore from Cremella, Italy qualified for the prestigious Omega European Masters and was the only amateur to make the weekend cut.

During his short time in Blue and White, Manzoni has already been named a PING Second Team All-American, also being selected for the PING Freshman All-America Team. He became just the third golfer in program history, and second freshman, to win the NCAA’s South Regional. Manzoni then followed that performance by going 2-0-1 in Lynn’s three match play rounds on its way to back-to-back national titles.

Established in 2001, The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship, played at Whispering Pines Golf Club, is a world class amateur golf event featuring 20 countries from six continents. Each country is represented by their two best men and two best women players. The Spirit truly showcases the stars of tomorrow; past Spirit Champions include current professional tour stars Lorena Ochoa, Brandt Snedeker, Paula Creamer and Martin Kaymer.

The Spirit is a biennial event alternating years with the World Amateur Team Championships. All 80 participants enjoy an Olympic like experience including Opening Ceremonies, International Village accommodations, festive dinner parties, Closing Ceremonies and a 54-hole golf event where the world’s best amateur golfers compete for gold medals.

The Spirit is hosted by the Spirit Golf Association, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to promoting amateur golf for the benefit of health related causes.
